There are times when fishing doesn’t pay the bills, and Placentia West residents — like so many other Newfoundlanders — had to leave their hometown for long periods to find employment. They would work for CP Rail, in the Arctic or as domestics elsewhere in the province or further away, find jobs in Ontario factories and mines across the country, or join the Armed Forces. This exhibit features the personal stories of these migrant workers and the families they left behind.
