Philip Jackman’s life is the story of a pioneering spirit. From humble beginnings as a farm labourer to a pillar of the community, this Royal Engineer Sapper stayed in Canada after his service and made a noteworthy contribution to British Columbia’s history. This exhibit follows the life and accomplishments of a man who, among other things, sought fortune in the Cariboo gold rush, worked at the province’s first psychiatric institution, served as Langley Reeve, acted as a Fisheries Officer on the Fraser River and mutinied while under the employ of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
