LR: So, you sai... You mentioned something about them not believing that you were coloured. When you were signing up; Or...?
CD: [pause, looking for picture] What'd I do with it?
LR: There they are, yeah...
CD: Yes.
LR: Yeah.
CD: See this is [taps photo] See I got brought up on the carpet; 'cause see my brother was dark.
LR: Okay...
CD: Like Wilma [(Miller) Morrison].
LR: Okay.
CD: And when we used to meet there, in the corner, 'cause he worked on the, uh, railroads, C, CNR [Canadian National Railway ], so, CN... So, uh, when he was in, so I used to meet him up there and we'd have a little chitchat, we could, maybe go for lunch or something. But, you know how somebody, family, greets each other?
LR: Yeah.
CD: They kiss each other.
LR: Of course.
CD: I got brought up on the ca, uh, on charges, and so did my brother...
LR: Oh my goodness!
CD: ...for kissing a black guy.
LR: Really!? Oh my gosh... What happened... So what happened? I mean obviously you...
CD: Oh, nothing happened!
LR: No! [laughs] Well, hopefully you would explain, but yeah...
CD: Because... Well, I had to explain. I said, 'That was my brother!'
LR: Yeah; yeah.
CD: 'But you're not black.' I said, 'Oh yes I am!'
LR: Yeah!
CD: [coughs] Oh, yeah.
