Plunge into the Past - A clip of a video recording from the underwater archaeology dig
1978

In addition to archaeology work that was completed at Fort Point in 1969, some underwater archaeology work was completed in 1977-78 on a nearby shipwreck, that is believed to have been crushed in the ice in the late 1700s named the Speedwell. Nothing has ever been 100% proven that this is indeed the same vessel however items that have been retrieved are dated to that time period. Some of the artifacts are on display at the Fort Point Interpretation Centre in Trinity, Newfoundland and Labrador while others are on display at The Rooms in St. John's or in protective storage.
