It was during his time on the coast of British Columbia that Rev. John Antle became "the Grenfell of the Pacific". In 1904 he built a fourteen foot boat, called her "Lavrock" and explored the coast to see what the Church might do for its people. He was moved by the inhabitants of the communities who remained without medical or spiritual care. Antle, who as a boy accompanied his father out to sea, thought of a marine mission to minister to the isolated communities.
