The other important aspect of the uniform is uniformity. Every part of it has to reflect our organizational values, which are safety, loyalty and integrity. Toward the organization, our colleagues and ourselves. To achieve that, well, as I said, we need uniformity. When we’re at the fire hall, we’re allowed to wear a T-shirt as long as it’s authorized by the department and has the department logo on it… and it’s navy blue. When it comes to prevention activities, all firefighters are required to wear a button-up shirt. In some months, they may wear a short-sleeved shirt. It’s important for citizens to have a sense of safety and know they are dealing with a city firefighter and not some other person. So, it’s important to be wearing the uniform and the department insignia.
