Dominion Day, 1901
Aurora Museum & Archives (999.34.7)
In 1901, the Sons of England (a Protestant and patriotic fraternal society) hosted the July 1st celebration in Town Park. For the event, they secured the Band of the Governor-General’s Body Guards of Toronto- this was a big draw as they were considered to be one of the best bands in the country.
The band played music for the crowd during the day then hosted a promenade concert in the Drill Shed, which was followed by fireworks in the park.
