Laurier Demonstration

Aurora Museum & Archives (994.35.2)
This ribbon belonged to one of Mr. Laurier’s mounted escorts during his visit to the North York riding on September 5th, 1893.
Mr. Laurier’s visit was reported as a huge Liberal demonstration and participants were led in a procession from Aurora’s Town Park to the neighboring town of Newmarket. Thousands of people traveled between the two towns; along the way elaborately decorated streets and beautified homes filled their view.
