The 1888 Kodak Camera

This is the same model of camera that Lady Aberdeen purchased for her trip to Canada.

The original Kodak camera, developed by George Eastman in Rochester NY, made photography available to everyone. Eastman invented flexible roll film, unlike earlier cameras that used a glass-plate negative for each exposure. The first Kodak camera, sold for $25, came preloaded with a 100-exposure roll of film and included a leather carrying case.  Once the 100 pictures were taken, the camera was returned to the Kodak factory in Rochester or Harrow (England) for developing and printing.  The camera was reloaded and returned with negatives and prints, all for the cost of $10!
