Mackay, a successful Scottish land promoter, moved to British Columbia in 1888.

“We had the advantage of being shown some of the country round Vancouver by an old friend (Mr. G.G. Mackay) whom I have often seen during my childhood at my father’s home in Inverness-shire.”
