Approaching Almonte Station

On the night of the train wreck, confusing signals at Almonte Station contributed to the disaster that occurred. Entering the town, the track curved as it crossed over the Mississippi River, limiting visibility when approaching the station. A signal lamp, which shone a reassuring green was meant to indicate that a train was stationed, but misled those on the troop train into assuming the station was clear.
