The image shown here is of a miniature sketch of Anne Langton showing her first home in Canada “Blythe Farm,” when she arrived in Canada in 1834.
Prior to the construction of the log church and during the winter months, Blythe Farm held Sunday services with Anne as a substitute “parson” if her brother John was absent.
In the Autumn of 1839 the Reverend Thomas Fidler became the congregation’s first official pastor, and with his arrival services were discontinued in Blythe.
On December 8, 1839, Anne Langton wrote of the worship service at Blythe:
We were twenty-one, John being absent, I was pastor. While rejoicing in the advantages of a regular clergyman and a public place of worship, I feel some regret that this little assembly of neighbours should cease.
