Reverend Fidler
St. James the Apostle Anglican Church, Fenelon Falls
[Black and white picture of an Anglican priest on altar of St. James the Apostle third church]
On June 1st, 1847, Reverend Fidler [a video of Fenelon Falls and rushing water over the falls] set out to visit the southern portion of his outlying parish by canoe. [Set of altar books circa late 1800s with leather covers and binding] Before receiving paddles, Reverend Fidler was swept quickly out of reach and sadly, over the falls to his death. He is buried in the hilltop St. James Cemetery. In spite of the fact that [a video of old St. James cemetery with pioneer tombstones now mounted together on cement] he was much loved by the congregation, they failed to record his death in the church registry until twenty-five years later.
