Ivy Malpass was born in 1907 in Armstrong, BC. As a teenager, she went to work as a summer girl at the East Kelowna packinghouse. Here Ivy met Cliff Fallow, and after their marriage the young couple moved to Okanagan Centre. The Vernon Fruit Union opened the new Woodsdale packinghouse in 1936 with Cliff Fallow as the packinghouse manager. After a few years, Ivy also came to work at the Woodsdale packinghouse where she enjoyed unsettling her husband with her jokes.
