Dominion Astrophysical Observatory circa 1916

The Director’s residence and a team of horses delivering part of the telescope with the dome of the 1.8-m telescope in the background. The parts of the telescope were hauled from Victoria to the Observatory by horse and wagon as they were much too heavy for the trucks of the time. The road had been designed with this in mind and had a steady, modest grade.
