Marie Albertina (Wallace) Stark (about 23) and her sister Louise Edna (Wylie) Stark (about 11), circa 1890. Marie Albertina and Louise Edna were the two youngest children. Marie was born on Salt Spring Island in 1867; Louise was born on the Cedar farm, Vancouver Island in 1879. Marie Albertina married Joseph B. Wallace in 1896 and moved to Vancouver, B.C. where they raised five children; Ethel, Oscar, Howard, Myrtle and Josie. The Wallace family were prosperous and owned a home in the Mt. Pleasant area of Vancouver. In the 1930s Marie Stark Wallace and her husband moved to the Salt Spring Island farm to help her brother Willis care for their mother Sylvia. Marie died in 1969, aged 98 years. Louise married Ernest Wiley in 1901. The Wiley’s moved to New Jersey, but Louise returned to Vancouver, British Columbia, probably after the death of her husband. She died there in 1971, aged 94 years. The sisters are buried at the Ganges Community Cemetery on Salt Spring Island.
