“On the Death of Judge Brew” by Rebecca Gibbs
University of British Columbia Archives. Open Collection. BC Historical Newspapers.
All of us have lost a friend
This is true you may depend;
He discharged his duty just and fair
With us, as he did elsewhere.
Though feeble man thus he be,
The rich and poor this world must leave.
The rich must go and cannot stay;
Lazarus dies and so must they.
He no more fills the arduous tasks,
Nor under officers judgements asks.
The conqueror’s cross he has now laid down,
And in Heaven wears a crown,
Past the ethereal – so let it be.
No more judging now for thee.
Thou art in Heaven, his glory see,
To rest through all eternity.
