The Richard family was part of a nucleus of families who moved to California from Florida and then later to Vancouver Island. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Victoria married Robert Thompson Clanton on Boxing Day, 1866, at St. John’s Anglican Church, Victoria. Richard owned a clothing store and then worked as a bookkeeper.
