Identified by its circular arrangement of leaves with purple speckles, the American Columbo is a perennial herb listed as an Endangered Species under the Endangered Species Act of Ontario. Habitat loss and invasive plants, such as Garlic Mustard and Common Buckthorn, threaten the species.
The American Columbo primarily grows in open deciduous forests in Southern Ontario. It has been located in grasslands, moist woods, and swampy habitats. American Columbo can also be found in the eastern and southeastern United States.
