Diverting Water

This image was taken as the top layers of brush, soil, gravel, and sand were cleared from the new quarry site in Beachville. On the right is a steam shovel used to move some overburden. To the left, water is being directed to a settling pond. Settling ponds are established at quarries to settle churned-up water and sediment. Once dirt and rock have dropped to the bottom of the ponds, the clear water that remains can be sent out to the river.
