Later Rotary Kilns

During the 1950s, the vertical drums of the shaft kilns were turned on their sides and inclined; the rotary kiln was introduced. By 1960, rotary kilns were installed at the Domtar site (formerly Gypsum Lime and Alabastine). These kilns were brought in on flatbed trucks and in fragments. The kilns were installed on an angle so that the rock travelled down the main cylinder as it was heated. It was then lifted by elevators to the main lime silos.
North American Cyanamid installed rotary kilns on their site in the 1950s.
