Quarry employees, Dick Crestoff, left, and Jack Barker, right, are surrounded by crates of dynamite as they charge holes to prepare for a blast. The Dynamex and Canadian Industries Limited (C.I.L.) crates you see in the image were often recycled by the residents of Beachville. They were used in their homes to make furniture, organize tools or hold other supplies. Children also used them to construct box cars for racing in the annual soapbox derbies.
