The Drilling Rig and Crew
Circa 1925

The drilling crew stands before a drill rig with a tall, wooden mast. The mast supports the drill cable. On the floor, at the end of the cable, is the drill bit that would have been dropped into holes to break up limestone. While the manufacturer of this rig is unknown, both drill rigs and steam shovels manufactured by the Bucyrus Foundry and Manufacturing Company (later known as Bucyrus-Erie) were used at the Beachville quarries. Truck-mounted Ingersoll-Rand Drillmasters were used at the quarries into the 1960s.
