The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority rehabilitated a former gravel pit into a natural and recreational campsite. Wildwood Conservation Area covers over 1400 hectares of land. In 1968, the campground opened with 62 campsites. The campground has expanded to 413 campsites covering 50 hectares of land, including a day-use area. Each year, an estimated 150,000 people visit Wildwood.
