A walk-through of the busy Artisan Market [1] at Enterprise Hall at The Celebration Centre to view some of the wares on offer and to speak with vendors.
A large banner outside Enterprise Hall at The Celebration Centre reads “Welcome to Celebration ‘90 Artisan Market”
Inside you hear the sound of a large crowd talking with vendors and each other as they explore the wares.
The camera captures a variety of t-shirts, stained glass, a milliner’s straw hats, and the offerings at the San Francisco Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence table.
A leather vendor sells hats, bags, and jewelry. She holds up two matching ceramic sculptures of a woman on her back with their legs straight up in the air. Jewelry is draped over them.
Leather vendor: Well, I’d say the most popular item this weekend has been these and they’re not for sale, but they are lovely.
Queers In Art Committee Member: The raffle for the event has gone very well. At this point there are really no t-shirts left to buy – these that we made. And we only did a limited edition of them, partially because we put our own money out for them. Partially because we didn’t want that many of them out, so a sort of limited edition. And really the only way someone can get a t-shirt at this point is the raffle. So, that part’s doing well.
Actually, I haven’t been to anything else – I’ve been so involved in this – but the artisan market itself is doing really well. I’m really quite proud of us all. It’s been a long haul organizing this. Five of us have been doing a lot of work and it’s really nice to finally be at the see the fruit of our work; seeing the efforts. And it was really busy yesterday, it seems really busy today. All the artists are really happy, I think they’ve done well, which it’s nice to hear artists doing well, and we had anticipated that Friday and Saturday would be our busiest days so I’m looking forward to the next two.”
