Introduction:
Jacqueline Memories of Special Wedding
Special Wedding
Jacqueline starts:
I am Jacqueline Gendron, a girl from Chicoutimi, Quebec. I had to move from my native town to find work as a teacher in Lévis, Quebec. At that time, jobs were difficult to find, and openings in my home town were almost nonexistent. I lived in Lévis for several years, during this time that I meet Brian in a discotheque in Old Québec.
We dated for some time and later got married in an Anglican Church with a Catholic Priest and an Anglican minister, in both languages. We were a large group of friends and family members. The reception was held on the cemetery grounds at the rear of the lodge. My mother-in-law had set up tables with flowers, and it was so beautiful.
Later I became pregnant and found it difficult to travel to Lévis for my work. At that time, parental leave did not exist, so I finally lost my job.
We revised our plans, and I decided to stay home and help Brian at the cemetery. That I never regretted at it allowed me to take painting lessons, participate in sports and take interior decoration courses. I enjoyed this very much, and with time I was able to replace Brian at his job. With this extra freedom, it gave Brian some liberty and some much needed time off, which made it possible for him to travel down to Virginia to see his brother.
When he was absent, I looked after the funerals for him. This situation was good for the two of us. What I appreciated also was the country style of living in the lodge. I was born on the shores of the Saguenay River, and my home at Mount Hermon allowed me to practice certain sports on the grounds.
