Joseph Boswell was born in Ireland and served as an apprentice to the Edinburg Brewery Company. When his apprenticeship was done, he immigrated to Quebec in 1844.
He owned the brewery named Boswell Brewing Company. They provided brews to British soldiers; they became an exclusive brew for the garrison for a decade.
Then in 1948, the Boswell Brewing Company became the Ekres Brewery when he transferred the company to his nephew. The brewery would stay into the family for three generations, and they would open 23 locations.
