In 1803, Justice Edward Bowen was chosen by the governor as the Attorney General of Lower Canada.
In 1812, he was appointed judge of the Court of King’s Bench in Quebec. In 1824, he was appointed to the Legislative Council of the province. Bowen was also a French translator for the Executive Council and a French secretary for the province. In 1849 he served as chief justice of the Superior Court, a position he held for almost two decades.
