Thomas Starts:
Hello, my name is Thomas Treggett, and I am Brian Treggetts, son. I’m 47 years old, and my father took care of the cemetery all his life; and for a long time, I thought of following in his footsteps, but I decided not to continue the tradition, and that was my decision. My father didn’t put any pressure on me to make the decision; he said, “It’s all up to you.”
Some facts about living in the cemetery well, I remember when I was a little kid, it was like my backyard, and I learned how to ride a bike in the cemetery. I worked for many summers for my father at the cemetery. We would have all sorts of adventures in that cemetery, like our playground—the playground of our house.
I enjoyed working at the cemetery. I worked several summers, of course, our primary job was to cut grass, but we had many odd jobs like painting the fence. I even painted the whole house, the exterior of the home with one of my friends Marcel. I worked with many friends at the cemetery, and many summers to I would replace Brian when he’d go on his vacation.
So I’d do the office work for him, so we did all sorts of jobs, and it was entertaining. And Brian, on Friday afternoon, would often come to see us and congratulate us just for the workweek. He would sometimes buy us a little beer too celebrate the big week that we’d had.
So it was an excellent job, and I have a lot of nice souvenirs from working at the cemetery. It was great.
