The twin steeples of the imposing Sainte Madeleine church in Rigaud are seen from far away. This church, built in 1920 by architects Louis-Zéphirin Gauthier (1842-1922) and Joseph-Égilde-Césaire Daoust (1881-1946), faces the Rigaud River, formerly known as the Rivière à la Graisse (Greasy River because of its dark color caused by the clay soil). The municipality grew on both sides of the river and the bridge adjoining both shores is a few steps away from the church.
