Mount Garibaldi

Wind ripples the deep blue colour of Garibaldi Lake and the glaciers above glisten in the sunshine. The brown and grey rock of the mountain peak in the background stands out in contrast to the deep green colour of the evergreen coloured slopes surrounding the lake.

Captain George Vancouver was the first European to set eyes on Mount Garibaldi during his exploration of Howe Sound. However, the mountain was named in 1860 by Captain George Henry Richards after the Italian military general and political figure Giuseppe Garibaldi, who helped unite Italy.
