The Gorilla of Cobourg fame was a four time winner of the Prince of Wales’ Cup between 1862 and 1872. R. W. Standley and a Capt. Gifford, both of Cobourg, were successive owners during that time.
She was originally the American yacht George Steers, named after her designer, and remained one of the fastest yachts on Lake Ontario for many years.
