Ship’s Bell

What I’m holding here today is an important piece of Cobourg’s history. It’s the bell from the HMCS Cobourg which was a corvette used during the Second World War by the Navy.
It was a flower type of corvette which was a slightly modified corvette to better serve as escorts for the transport of foods across the Atlantic Ocean.
This particular bell is in the process of being cleaned up. I’m so proud of it I’m going to have it cleaned up and put on the wall in my office so that all can see it and show to all visitors to my office that we do have this important piece of history in Cobourg.
(The) Cobourg did survive the Second World War and was eventually decommissioned somewhere in the southern United States. It didn’t suffer the tragedy that many corvettes did.
OK, so in closing what I’d like to do, is I would just like to demonstrate the sound that all the sailors heard when they were called to action on the HMCS Cobourg (clanging bell)
