Captain Slade, standing on the Cobourg dock in front of HMS Cape Mercy, briefs visitors on the role of the Canadian Coast Guard in search and rescue operations along the coast of Lake Ontario.
The Cobourg coast guard station averages about 40 calls a year for assistance and emergencies on the lake. There are two crews of four which rotate on a 14-day schedule. When a crew is at the station they work eight hours a day and are on stand-by for the remaining 16 hours.
