Photograph showing Mrs. Violet Guymer (nee Poynter), an original member of the Order of the Eastern Star in The Pas. Mrs. Guymer came to The Pas in 1910. In 1918, her husband died and she was urged by the Town Officials to continue the business started by brothers Lawrence Edmund and Daniel Herbert, Violet’s husband. The company was originally known as the Guymer Bros. Transfer and Forwarding Company and the Undertaking Establishment. This was later known as Guymer’s Funeral Home. Mrs. Violet Irene Guymer passed the necessary examination for Morticians and was for 23 years the only licensed female Mortician in Manitoba.
