Coastal navigation was captain J.A.Z. Desgagnés’ whole life. When he retired in the early ’70s, for want of navigating, he started to paint and depict the schooners of bygone days. These reproductions, done in a naïve style using mixed media, are mostly of the sail-powered schooners the captain remembered from his youth.
