Dr. Mostyn has been a resident of Almonte for 23 years. . .He has held the position of President of the North Lanark Agricultural Society since 1867, and was ever an earnest advocate of it’s interests. He was elected to the council of Ramsay township and after the incorporation of Almonte as a village in 1871, was chosen as the first Reeve, a position he retained for three years. As a physician he has always occupied a prominent position – representing Rideau and Bathurst Division in the Ontario Medical Council from 1869 to 1872, and at the time of his death being President of the Division association. As a politician he wielded a large influence – his personal popularity being unbounded – and carried North Lanark in the Ontario general election of 1875, defeating Mr. Wm. C. Caldwell. At the last general election, in 1879, he was defeated by Mr. Caldwell. He was also a prominent Freemason, and for a number of years was Dr. D. G. M. for Ottawa district. As a citizen of Almonte he took an active interest in every thing that concerned its welfare. A warm friend of education, he has been a member of the school board since its formation [in 1863], and was several times selected as chairman. Of a remarkable social disposition and with a high sense of honor, he possessed the good will of everybody and the unswerving friendship of all who were intimately acquainted with him.
