Clyde Street in the town of Almonte became known as ‘Professional Alley’ when Dr. Mostyn began work on the stone Doctor’s House. The street was already home to St. Paul’s Anglican Church—which itself accounted for two buildings, the church and the minister’s home—and the Reilly’s Hotel and Hall, both places which the community would often frequent. Judge Joseph Jamieson, a man of significant political stature in the community, had also built his stately home there in 1866, and a new County Registry Office was built across the street from the church in 1879.
