Detroit Electric at CNE, 1967
Collection of the Canadian National Exhibition Archives
A model poses alongside a 1917 Detroit electric car at the 1967 Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. This display, put on by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, was intended to contrast the Detroit with Westinghouse’s new electric Markette, “a small electric vehicle for around-town transportation.” Ultimately, the Markette was actually slower and shorter-ranged than the 50-year-old electrics it was supposed to supplant, and was quietly dropped.
