Electrek in Saskatchewan, 1982
Collection of the Western Development Museum
Built by Unique Mobility of Denver, Col., the Electrek was marketed as an environmentally friendly short-distance car. The car in this 1982 photograph was purchased by Saskatchewan Power Corporation to test its performance in Prairie weather conditions. The final report determined that the Electrek’s performance suffered massively in cold weather and that recycling its large bank of lead-acid batteries was not environmentally friendly.
