Marci Csumrik – Change in Orillia
If there was one thing that you could change about Orillia, what would it be?
More inclusiveness. I still see a divide here that was present when I grew up. I think with what we have to offer, I believe that’s happening. Maybe more community members giving back too. I think that’s important, I think there’s a lot of people that don’t really do charity work and even though it’s in the schools, it’s part of the curriculum that you have to, it’s just important to give back.
Volunteerism is really on the decline I think, because the same people are doing the same causes, and it’d be nice to see some new fresh faces. Maybe that might change.
If there’s one thing you would never change about Orillia, what would that be?
There is charm in small town. Even though our city hall is frustrating to deal with. Even the Stephen Leacock’s Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town, I recommend that to anybody that moves here to read, you still see the quirkiness of it. I think that’s the charm of Orillia, and I would hate to see us become Barrie, or just a big commuter town. I think what we have right now is it’s pretty good.
