Who is Tyler Knight?
My name is Tyler Knight and I’m from Orillia, born and raised here so I didn’t really have a choice in where I grew up, but I’m glad that my parents chose Orillia because it’s provided me with a great community to grow up in.
I opened a business in Orillia – actually, opened two businesses now in Orillia – the first one being KnightVision Media, which is my video production and photography company. It was a passion for video and photography, at the time it started with doing some skateboard lessons and making little videos from that.
A parent said they’d be interested in filming a wedding video and that was kind of the first gig for me. Soon I realized through working with different community partners and helping out in the community, that this could be a business. Fast forward, it’s been almost 13 years now and I’ve been doing this full-time for about 10 years.
Then about two years ago, my fiancé Allie Fry and I decided to jump in to a new business venture, which is Refillery District – a plastic-free grocery store.
The reason behind that is we wanted to make a difference in the amount of plastic that we were using on a regular basis and we thought there’s really no avenue to do that, so we wanted to create that for ourselves and the community. She’s actually running the business, she does the orders, she chooses the products, she’s the brains behind the operation and I’ve taken the role of media and marketing, photography, coming up with ideas and and how to grow the business. It’s been a really good partnership.
We chose downtown Orillia because we know that the community is very supportive of these things.
