Honouring a Community – Becca Shron
When Becca Shron was five years old, her family took a drive from their home in Toronto and headed north to Orillia on a whim. They instantly fell in love and decided to put down roots, but once settled, they became aware they were the only Jewish family in the community.
The Shron’s knew it was important to remain connected to their community, so the family attended a synagogue in Barrie, enrolled Becca in Jewish summer camp, and ensured she remained connected to her heritage and faith. Becca experienced a disconnect while living in Orillia, but the family handled any questions about their background as a chance to educate, rather than take offense.
