When James Murray lived behind the lines with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, he got to know the soldiers’ stories first hand. He would take photos during the day and deliver his spent film to his editor by hanging it in a plastic grocery bag on a designated fence post.

In 2013 James revisited the scenes he had shot 15 years previously. The landscape had changed dramatically. It was recovering.
