Dwayne Burdeniuk worked for the District of Salmon Arm and was seconded to the Columbia Shuswap Regional District for emergencies. He thought long and hard about the people who refused to evacuate.
When emergency situations arose in subsequent years and citizens were required to leave their homes, he had a standard request if people wanted to stay put.
“Leave us your dental records,” Burdeniuk said. It wasn’t really a request.
Most often they got the point.
