The ditty of the ice storm victims
Everything began
On a nice day in January
The freezing rain started
Goodbye to electricity.
The plough didn’t come
The phone didn’t ring
No garbage pick-up
What a way to say Happy New Year….
On the second day
All the tree branches broke
I tried to get the ice off
Believe me, it wasn’t a joke.
The evening fell
The freezing rain wouldn’t stop
In front of the fireplace
We warmed ourselves up.
On the third day
I started to despair
From the the two hundred pails of water
That I had to bear.
On the fourth day
I was very disheartened
Until I ran into
Our neighbour Charlie
Charlie, who we liked
Introduced us to
His next door neighbours
Our saviours, the Dubucs.
Mr. Dubuc plugged us in
He had a generator!
He didn’t charge us anything
We will always be grateful
So, we thought we were OK
But the sump pump succumbed
I went to the hardware store
He let me have his last one.
But my car conked out
My tire needed air
I avoided an accident
But was stranded right there.
That’s when I decided
To make up a song
To thank everyone
The ditty of the ice storm victims.
Thanks to neighbours and friends
The current was flowing
We can help each other
When the worst has happened.
Thanks to neighbours and friends
The current was flowing
We can help each other
When the worst has happened.
