At a single meeting, over 500 people showed up to hear about building a home of their own. Not all would continue once they learned of the mandatory one-year study period. The core text was A Guide to Co-operative Housing, developed by students at the Institute of Social Action in Ottawa, under the direction of Father Marrocco. In Hamilton, some 200 families committed to a year of small-group study.
