Portelance family rug stall, circa 1948

Among the roadside stalls along Route 138, the Portelance family stall offers woven and hooked rugs made by the Portelance sisters and local residents. Skilled recyclers, they used nylon or silk stockings to make their hooked rugs. Like all the others, it is now closed and only a memory of another era.
