The heavily fenestrated school was built in 1913 to plans drawn up by the Department of Public Instruction. In the late 1940s, the building was enlarged at the rear and a covered gallery was added to the façade.
Between 1944 and 1966, it also served as a convent, with teaching provided by the Sœurs Servantes du Sacré-Cœur-de-Marie.
Despite a significant drop in student numbers in the early 1970s, the commitment of the community kept the school running.
