The church of Saint-Charles-Borromée des Grondines, the parish’s second church, was built between 1839 and 1842 to plans by architect Thomas Baillairgé. In 1895, architect Joseph-Georges Bussières proposed major modifications to the steeples. With approval of the Fabrique, he fitted the church with asymmetrical steeples that accentuated its neo-Gothic character, contrasting with the neo-classical decor inside. The doors and windows had already been modified in 1879 to give them an ogive shape, characteristic of the Neo-Gothic style.
The photographic negative above is one of the few surviving records of the bell towers before their conversion.
